July 26th 1864

I hereby certify on honor that on the 9th day of April 1864 at the battle of Pleasant Hill, La., the following ordnance and ordnance stores were lost to wit,

2 Enfield Rifled Muskets Complete, 577 Caliber

2 Bayonet Scabards

2 Cap Pouches & Com Picks

2 Cartridge Boxes, 58 Caliber

2 Cartridge Box Plates

2 Cartridge Box Belts

2 Cartridge Box Belt Plates

2 Gun Slings

2 Waist Belts

2 Waist Bell Plates

Also at the battle of Old Oaks, La., May 18th 1864 was lost,

1 Enfield Rifle Complete Caliber, 577

1 Gun Sling

The following are the circumstances under which the above losses took place.

Corporal Harrison H. Love & private Janus H. Booth of Co. H. 27th Regt. Iowa Vols. Inf. were wounded severely. Corp. Love in the left thigh and left on the field & became a prisoner of war the ground on which he fell being taken possession of by the Enemy.

Private Booth was wounded in the hand while the Regt. was falling back the Regt being flanked on both sides & nearly surrounded by the Enemy & to escape being taken prisoner it was absolutely necessary that he should drop his gun and accoutrements.

The Enfield Rifle complete & Gun Sling lost at the battle of Old Oaks, La., May 18th 1864 was lost as follows:

Charles Coulon private of Co. H 27th Regt Iowa Vols Inf was killed while charging upon the Enemy with the Co. H. Regt. Afterwards the Regt fell back leaving the field in the possession of the Enemy. It was impossible to find either the body or arms of said Coulon.

All of the above Ordnance & Ordnance Stores were lost without any fault of mine or of the soldier in whose possession they were.
