John A. Trowbridge, New York 1st Engineer, 33rd USCT

Lieut New York 1st Engineer CDV captures 1st Lieutenant John A. Trowbridge, a serious and clean-shaven military man who stands in front of a plain backdrop. He wears a singled breasted frock coat with his right hand on a the back of a chair on which modified Hardee hat rests. Note that the hat has a 1 in the infantry horn. The 22 year old did not list his residence when he enlisted on 12/11/1861 at Brooklyn, NY as a Private. On 12/11/1861 he mustered into "F” Co. NY 1st Eng. and was discharged for promotion on 10/13/1862 at Fort Pulaski, GA. On 10/13/1862 he was commissioned into "A” Co. US CT 33rd infantry. He resigned on 11/29/1864. His promotions included Corporal 1/15/1862; 2nd Lieutenant 10/13/1862 as of Co. A 33rd USCT infantry; and 1st Lieutenant on 1/1/1864. Backmark on card reads, "E.M. Douglass Artist 324 Fulton St Brooklyn,” and pencil notations read "LT. John A. Trowbridge Company A 33rd U.S. Colored Troops.”
