Thomas Bruce 3 1/2 pages ALS- with staining  …”of the 72 who were taken prisoner
from my old Co only 25 or 26 are living…” $135

11447 12th NY Cavarly  January 5, 1865 letter of Thomas Bruce.  He wants rebels to
have to “drag out a life of torture and starvation should they be lucky enough to be
taken prisoner..”  He attacks treatment of union prisoners by Confederates.  Attacks
anyone who would vote for George Pendleton and Horatio Seymour.  Goes on to
discuss Copperheads, different aspects of the war.  There is great Civil War and
Political content.

Bruce was enlisted into the military on 10/25/1862 at Hillsdale, NY as a 1st
Lieutenant.  On 4/8/1863 he was commissioned into “D” Co. NY 12th Cavalry.  He
was Mustered Out on 7/19/1865 at Raleigh, NC.  He was promoted to Captain on
