Fort Niobrara is in the desolate northwest corner of the
state of Nebraska along the Niobrara river. This fort was
built as to protect the growing Westward expansion from
Indians.  It was built in 1880 and the first officer in charge
was Major John J. Upham who was then in command of
troops B,D, and F of the Fifth Cavalry and Company B of
the Ninth Infantry.  The military reservation consisted of 54
sections. The horizon shows the isolation of the fort.
