12312 Ellsworth/Brownell Ferrotypes - Two circular tintypes (1”
diameter) back to back in a brass donut frame. One side features
a portrait of Elmer Ellsworth and is labeled “Ellsworth the
Martyr” while the other shows the face of Francis Brownell and
says “Brownell the Avenger.” There is a small hole at the top for
hanging. Ellsworth became the first casualty of the Civil War
when he was killed by innkeeper James W. Jackson. Brownell is
believed to have avenged his death.       $350/pair
