18248 Iowa 8th Cavalry  One page letter sheet
headed “Headquarters Company D Eighth Iowa
Cavalry” was written near “Camp near Macon,
Ga. June 17th, 1865.”  The writer is William
Christy, Lieut. Company D.  Christy is writing
Gen. N. B. Baker and in the note gives the General
information about several men being mustered
out.  Christy was wounded in July 1864 at Lovejoy
Station, Ga. and captured.  He was paroled as a
POW in December 1864.  The top of the letter
features  a drawing of the 8th Iowa fighting in
battle.  $95
