CDV, scenic view of the castle known as Mikulov
Castle in the Czech Republic.  From 1943-45 the
castle was used by the Nazis to store works of art
stolen  from France, Belgium, and Holland.  At
least 5 trains packed with hundreds of crates
were unloaded and placed throughout the castle.  
In the final days of the war the castle sustained
massive artillery hits and a major fire.  Some of
the objects were removed by the local people for
safekeeping.  Two years after the war the Czech
government returned several hundred items to
the French government.  This area had been a
dominant Jewish settlement since 1420. Marked
