20143 Horace Jewitt 15th US Infantry CDV  Colonel Jewett was born at East
Berwick, Maine March 31, 1834 and enlisted in the military service on the
breaking out of the War of the Rebellion, was appointed from Maine first
lieutenant of the 15th Infantry and served with distinction through the war. He
was breveted captain for gallant conduct at the Battles of Shiloh and
Murfreesboro, Tennessee and in 1864 he was breveted major for gallant and
meritorious conduct in several battles. He was actively engaged in the Indian
Wars and was engaged in the final campaigns against the Apaches.  $175
