pose in frock coat resembling on e A.P. Hill wore. Period Ink inscription
on the verso "Capt. A.P. Piper, Newberry, SC.” The 39th was attached
to General HQ, Army of Northern Virginia and served as Robert E. Lee's
personal cavalry battle command and participated in every cavalry battle
Lee was present from Fredericksburg to Appomattox. Back mark
