Major General Philip Kearny - CDV shows a left-facing
profile of Philip Kearny, Jr. (1815 -1862) who was best known for his leadership in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War. He wears his officer’s jacket as well as his distinguished goatee and moustache. He was killed in action in the Battle of Chantilly in 1862 and was at times called "Kearney the Magnificent". Before his death he lived a full life in the Army. He was a personal bodyguard for General Winfield Scott, led a daring cavalry charge in the Mexican-American War that led to his left arm being amputated, and was appointed Brigadier General in the Civil War. He died while trying to escape the Confederacy at the Battle of Chantilly.
