William Ebbert a pair of 1/6 plate daguerreotypes of William Ebbert, one in his blue tinted Mexican War Era Uniform and the other a civilian view which has original seals. There is copious amounts of information with the image including a small lock of hair (behind the image). Research indicates he is buried in Mt Olive Cemetery Fredrick Maryland. The Eagle insignia on the forage cap is like the Dragoon eagle (missing the starburst background). The red piping on the uniform and slash pocket tells us he is with an artillery unit. This one came from my personal collection.

The notes read:

Awful Accident

Yesterday morning about 10 o’clock as Mr. William Ebbert, Whitesmith was attempting to unscrew the breach of a pistol, left at the shop for some repairs; The pistol was by some means discharged and the whole load entered his body. We understand that Mr. Ebberts recovery is rather doubtful.

Tribute of Respect

At a meeting in Frederick Division No. 15, Sons of Temperance, held on Wednesday morning September 24, 1851, for the purpose of pain the last tribute of respect to our deceased brother, William a Evert, the following preamble and resolutions were unanimously adapted:

Whereas, it has pleased the supreme disposer of all things to remove from our midst brother William a Evert, a worthy, efficient and much respected member of our order, therefore,

Resolved, That the members of Frederick Division No. 15, record with emotions of sorrow their sins of the loss they have sustained in the sudden and unexpected death of brother Albert.

Resolved, that the sympathies of this Division be expressed to the family of the deceased on this great bereavement, and that they may look and find consolation in him who gave and half taken away.

Resolved, that these proceedings be signed by the W. P. And R. S., and a copy sent to the family of the deceased.

Resolved, that the usual badge of mourning be worn for the space of 30 days.

Handwritten note:

Died September 23, 1851 William a Ebbert oldest son of Benjamin and Caroline Ebbert aged 21 years departed the life on Tuesday morning at five o’clock.
