Confederate Lt Col Harry Ward Gilmor Wounded 4X,A standing view CDV back marked E&HT Anthony, Brady’s National Portrait Gallery, New York. Gilmor began his military career with the Baltimore County Horse Guards in 1861. Arrested after the Pratt Street Riots and imprisoned at Fort McHenry, he was released and joined the Confederate Army, serving under General Turner Ashby. Commissioned as a captain in the 12th Virginia Cavalry, he was promoted to major in 1863 and led the 1st and 2nd Maryland Cavalry during the Gettysburg Campaign, acting as provost marshal in Gettysburg. Known for daring raids, including the Magnolia Station Raid in 1864, his unit, "Gilmor’s Raiders,” disrupted Union operations. Captured during the Maryland Campaign, he spent five months in prison. In 1864, as a lieutenant colonel, he commanded raids around Baltimore. Wounded four times and captured twice, Gilmor’s bold tactics earned him fame.
