Possibly a 4th Ohio Given Guard The Given Guards, also known as Company E of the 4th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (OVI), was the notable Zouave-styled unit organized in Wooster, Ohio. The company was organized in Wooster, Wayne County, in early 1861 following President Lincoln's initial call for troops. While the 4th OVI as a whole was a standard infantry regiment, Company E (along with Company F, the "Canton Zouaves") initially adopted the colorful and distinctive Zouave uniform. This typically included short jackets, baggy trousers, and fezzes, modeled after elite French light infantry. Front marked Theodore Temple, Wooster, Ohio.
