Confederate General James Longstreet nicknamed "Old War Horse" by Robert E. Lee, was one of the Confederacy’s most formidable and controversial generals. As commander of the First Corps in the Army of Northern Virginia, he was a master of defensive tactics, effectively utilizing trenches and terrain at victories like Fredericksburg and Second Bull Run. Longstreet is perhaps best known for his reluctance at the Battle of Gettysburg, where he unsuccessfully argued against Lee's aggressive frontal assaults, including the disastrous Pickett's Charge. Despite these disagreements, he remained a primary lieutenant throughout the war, even serving in the Western Theater to secure a major win at Chickamauga.
