General Mortimer D. Leggett WIA 78thOhio Signed CDV Leggett began his service on the staff of General George B. McClellan before raising the 78th Ohio Infantry. His military career was marked by significant command and gallantry. He led troops at Fort Donelson, Shiloh, and Corinth. During the Vicksburg Campaign, he was severely wounded while commanding a brigade. At Atlanta he commanded the 3rd Division of the XVII Corps where his troops famously captured Bald Hill (later renamed Leggett's Hill). He also accompanied Sherman on the March to the Sea and through the Carolinas. No back mark.
