Bishop of Hartford - Cabinet Card portrays the most Rev. Lawrence Stephen McMahon,
the Bishop of Hartford, wearing his robe. He stands in a living room with a couple of chairs on each
side of him. The Bishop was in office from August 10, 1879 - August 21,
1893. He was born in St. John, New Brunswick and came to the United States at
the age of four. He attended Holy Cross College in Worcester at age 15. He
attended the College of Aix in France and then completed his theological
studies in Rome where he was ordained to the priesthood on March 24, 1860. He
was a vicar general of the Diocese of Providence, RI in 1872. He was appointed
the fifth Bishop of Hartford, Connecticut by Pope Leo XII.
