General Orris S. Ferry A standing view CDV of Ferry who before the war, served as a U.S. Congressman, known for his staunch anti-slavery views. Ferry helped recruit the 5th Connecticut Infantry and served as its colonel. He was promoted to brigadier general of volunteers in 1862. Ferry spent much of his military career in the Eastern Theater, serving in the Department of the South and the Army of the James. He participated in the Siege of Charleston and commanded a division during the operations against Richmond and Petersburg. In recognition of his service, he was brevetted major general of volunteers in May 1865. There is a wide streak as seen from the way this image was originally finished. Back marked E.
