The central girl wears dark lace gloves and stares directly at the viewer with remarkable presence. Their hairstyles are tidy and center-parted, conveying an air of quiet formality and familial intimacy. The image is notable for its tonal clarity and fine lighting. Stamped in the brass mat: "R.M. Cole Artist” and "Peoria Ills.” Roderick M. Cole was a prominent photographer active in Peoria, Illinois, during the 1850s, known for the aesthetic quality and technical refinement of his cased images.
