Possible Confederate With Rifle and Fixed
Bayonet -
1/9 plate ambrotype of soldier in a uniform that is nonstandard Federal issue. He
has a small US belt plate along with a cartridge and cap box. The forage cap is
a private purchase early war McDowell, with a red crown. Some of the Louisiana
boys wore such headgear and the thin face and Van Dyck facial hair looks
Southern, but nothing here can be said to be conclusively Confederate. He
also has a rifle with fixed bayonet. I originally purchased this years ago from
noted Louisiana dealer Cary Delery and recently purchased it again from the DeQuesada
estate material. Thermoplastic case.
