The Steamboat John W. Garrett The boat was operated by the New York & Baltimore Transportation Line and was named after John Work Garrett, the influential president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O) who led the company for nearly 30 years. He was known for expanding the B&O's interests into shipping, particularly after the Civil War when he refitted former gunboats into packet ships to establish regular line service from Baltimore. Stamped Clarmont Thorne on the verso.
