Regt. M. V. M. Virginnia Sept the 19 /61 Friend Day,
This is the first chance I have had to write
you since I received youre letter I have -not riten but one letter home since I
received yours I have had to work on Fort, Elsworth every day except when I
have been on garad at Camp or on Picket gard since I came from Bull Run, there
is too- mutch buisness going on in Camp at night for me to write then, We havet o play
Cardes once and a while and ile bet you we have some pretty good games to, I
enjoys myself first rate out here. I wish you could be out here with me, our
Company is
not full, they have sent home to Maine two Recruiting Officers one is our first Lieutenant,
H, F, Bucknam of Mechanic Falls he is agoing to try to fill up our Company with
as good ones as there is in it now, there is not one of our Company been put in
the Guard House yet, Wish you would go to Mechanic Falls and enlist to come in
this Company, Dont enlist in any other Company in the Rigament, Old Sect says
we shall all be at home to Thanksgiving, I am afraid he has lide but I dont
know. I for one dont want to go home until the War is settled, we have some
pretty good times out here and some pretty hard ones, Our Brigade has mooved about two
and a half milds from Alexandria Sitty and are now building a new Fort the
bigest in the State we expect it will be our Winter quarters I hope it will
be for I should kinder like to stay until next spring Tell Martin I think he had
better come out here and buy him a Farm, when the War is over for News. is a
fool to this place, as far as farming is Concerned, as for the People give me
old News, If he buys one in Hebron I think the Whitman Farm is the cheepest
Farm at a thousand that he can find I hope he will buy it, Give my love to
Martin and Wife, How does that little Abe grow I would like to see him, Have
they named him yet Write me all the news I would like for you to answer this as
