J. Frantisek, No. 303 (Polish) squadron. "Vectored onto large enemy formation crossing inland for London. My action ordered to attack bombers consisting of He111 & D017 with fighter escort around 10000 feet above. E/A flying in view of four line abreast. I closed in on a He111 and the group scattered. I chased one He111 back towards the channel before I was attacked by two 109's. I went into 9/10 cloud base coming out the other side and to port of one 109 around 500 feet below me. He had not seen me so I attacked firing a short burst at close range from an abreast deflection shot. The e/a immediately rolled over trailing glycol and blue smoke. I came around and saw the pilot drop out and his canopy opened after a few hundred feet. I circled him a number of times before heading back to base as my ammunition was low."

Josef Frantisek was a Czech fighter pilot and WW II fighter ace. He was the highest-scoring non-British allied ace in the Battle of Britain, with 17 confirmed victories and one probable, all gained in a period of four weeks in September, 1940. Frantisek was a brilliant pilot and combatant but frequently breached air force discipline. The RAF found it best to let him patrol alone, a role in which he was highly successful. He was killed in a crash in October 1940 in the final week of the Battle of Britain.
