RED BEARD. This neat 1/9 plate daguerreotype has been in my collection for many years. I originally purchased this from Dennis Waters and below is the description as only Dennis can do.
Yep! The maker of this brilliant, archivally taped ninth plate dag not only hit a home run when he shot the gent in about the most casual pose possible, he also added a red hue to the fellow's beard and cheeks. The
outstanding portrait allows us to view the man standing nearly full length. His heavy overcoat is draped across one arm. His entire body is alive and there is a wonderful spontaneous attitude about him. There are mat abrasions inside the rim of the oval mat. Slices of multi-hued oxidation touch the brass in several places. The clarity, contrast and tonality are all excellent. He is held in a miniature case that is worn
and has a repaired hinge.
