1887 Photographer’s Medal in Case with two Photos of
the Photographer
– Bronze-colored medal, 2 5/8” diameter, ¼” thickness, in a nice case with purple interior. Inscription on the back reads: "The Medal of Superiority / Awarded to J.L. Walkup, For the Air Brush and Portraits. 1887”. Lettering on the front reads: "American Institute New York”. The image on
the front is of Lady Liberty and Bounty. She holds out a
garland. Arranged in front of her are a weaver’s shuttle, a spool of thread, a spinning wheel, and a sheaf of grain. Behind her are an eagle, a Union shield, the handles of a plow, and a cornucopia with fruit spilling out of it. In the back to the left is a sailing ship. In addition this piece comes with a cabinet card and a CDV of the Photographer! A very unusual piece.
