Confederate Surgeon POW Directs Medical Care Manuscript letter signed by CSA Chief Surgeon William B Harrison (who was earlier detailed as a prison Surgeon at Andersonville). Written just 5 days before the surrender at Appomattox, Harrison writes as follows:

Selma Alabama April 4, 1865

Surgeons Robert T Abernathy and F.W. Williams and asst. surgeon W.T. Bell will constitute the board of medical affairs to visit daily our prisoners in the stockade -prescribing for all such as are but slightly indisposed, in prison; and sending to hospital all such as require hospital treatment.
