Union General John G. Foster CDV standing 3/4 view in uniform. He
commanded the 1st Brigade in Burnside's North Carolina Expedition and was
conspicuous in action at the battles of Roanoke Island and New Bern.
After the war he helped develop the Roanoke Island Freedman's Colony, giving
them farming tools and helping prepare them for a "free and independent
community." Back mark Brady's, New York.
