General John McNeil A knees up standing CDV with an interesting
view of Jesse Fremont affixed to the reverse. McNeil was most noted for his
role in the Palmyra Missouri Massacre (he executed 10 Confederate prisoners
in reprisal for the abduction of a local Union supporter) and other acts of
alleged brutality, as well as his participation in the Battle of Westport, the
largest battle west of the Mississippi River. For his role in the Palmyra
Massacre, he was given the nickname "Butcher of Palmyra."
