James R. Dobbyn 1st D.C. Cav ALS, 1 1/2PP. 8vo., "The tobacco we get from the (sutlers) is rotten and very dear. In fact so is everything they have.”

Camp in the Field

Nov. 24th, 1864

Dear Brother,

I received your letter through the kindness of John Hill. I am enjoying excellent health and spirits at present. I received the tobacco from John and am very thankful for it. The tobacco we get from the (sutlers) is rotten and very dear. In fact so is everything they have. We can't find out what they intend to do with us in this winter. Hill says Col. Baker told him that we would not come home this winter and in the spring there will not be any left to come home. I sent my picture home on the 15th I hope it went safe. No more at present. I remain your affectionate brother,

Jas. R. Dobbyn
