General Frederick W. Lander - CDV of Lander who was
a transcontinental explorer, Union general and a prolific poet. He was
employed by the US government to survey land and select a route for the Pacific
railroad. Later he constructed the overland wagon route that was later
named Lander Road. He was known by many as a tough general who refused to
surrender. He died from complications of pneumonia at the age of 41.
The general stands in full uniform. His right-hand rests inside his
partially unbuttoned coat while his left hand taps a stack of books. No
back mark.
