Although mountain man, Indian agent, military officer, and explorer Kit Carson was rather short of stature and had an unimpressive demeanor, the strength of his character can be seen in this excellent CDV of Carson in his 40s. He looks purposefully into the camera's lens, wearing a formal suit and tie. His long hair is brushed away from his forehead, revealing a receding hairline. Carson is a rare CDV.
