General Jefferson C. Davis Signature with Rank 3 1/4"X 1 3/8". Jefferson was known for his controversial yet effective military career. Born in Indiana, Davis rose from a regular army officer to a brevet major general, commanding troops in key campaigns. He gained notoriety in 1862 for murdering General William "Bull" Nelson during a personal dispute in Louisville, Kentucky, though he faced no formal charges. Davis later led forces in the Atlanta Campaign and Sherman’s March to the Sea, earning praise for his leadership. After the war, he served in the U.S. Army, notably in the Modoc War, until his death in 1879.
