Confederate General Samuel Garland Jr. CDV vignette portrait. Captain of the
Lynchburg Home Guard, which later joined the 11th Virginia Infantry. He
was first wounded at Williamsburg. He was killed during the Maryland
campaign while defending Fox's Gap. He was the grand nephew of founding father
and President James Madison. A rare card only the second I have ever seen and
the only view of him available. Back
