Confederate General G. T. Beauregard CDV, bust view, West Point graduate class of 1838, he was the first brigadier general in the Confederate States Army and commanded the defenses of Charleston and won the First Battle of Bull Run. His greatest achievement was saving Petersburg and Richmond from destruction by Union forces. In later life he became quite wealthy as a promoter of the Louisiana Lottery.
