Maj Gen James McPherson - CDV General McPherson was beloved by many and seen as an invaluable asset to the military. He was appointed by U.S. Grant to be Chief Military Engineer. When the war broke out, he went to
the battlefield at Corinth, Mississippi where he commanded an infantry brigade. He later would be appointed to lead the Union’s 17th Corps during the campaign to capture Vicksburg. He continued to rise in rank and led 12,00 men
