Cradle1/6 plate Daguerreotype in full leather case, by Upton gallery, is a formal
full body portrait of young girl standing by a table upon which rests a Frozen
Charlotte bisque doll in a cradle. Frozen Charlottes were sometimes used as
bath toys as they would float. The arms of these dolls are in the bent-elbow,
stiff position. They received their name from the folk song which spoke of the
young lady "Charlotte” who froze to death while traveling to a ball in her
carriage. Full case.
