Ft. Niobrare oversized cabinet card of elevated

Fort Niobrara is in the desolate northwest corner of the
state of Nebraska along the Niobrara river. This fort was built as to protect the growing Westward expansion from Indians. It was built in 1880 and the first officer in charge was Major John J. Upham who was then in command of troops B,D, and F of the Fifth Cavalry and Company B of the Ninth Infantry. The military reservation consisted of 54 sections. The horizon shows the isolation of the fort.
